The Planet Earth Button™ is an up-dated version of the earth flag concept, (using photos from space).  The up-dated version includes earth's satellite, moon.

The imagery on the button, is visually pleasing and implies balance (natural law).  Viewing the button images could very well remind one of seeing a representation of the hydrogen atom (one nucleus and one orbiting counterpart). 

To illustrate the appropriateness of the button's graphics, notice that the image on the left (below) is a graphic symbol of the hydrogen atom.  Then notice the image on the right.  The design shows Planet Earth (our water planet)...where hydrogen is abundant.

Also, the image of the moon imparts the idea of balance and power ... such as the rhythmic energy of  the tides.  The moon's power, for all intents and purposes, provides one of the natural rhythms on spaceship earth.  Without the rhythm of the tides, the oceans would not move (reminiscent of the in and out movement of breathing).

The Ultimate Earth Day Activity  (can be done on any day)

Spend an entire day without using energy - in the conventional meaning ( now-a-days)

Rules:

• No hot water...unless heated on site with a 'natural energy' source
• Do not use a generator unless the fuel is clean-burning
• 'Stored energy' is permitted for TV, Music, etc. It must be stored using a solar panel, etc.  We've heard of some creating stored energy while doing stationary bicycle workouts
• Use 'user power' transportation (or hybrid vehicles to advertise that you're going in a direction that will make you part of the solution)...
• Take public transportation
• Shop for your food for the day (1 day's worth) without using your car
• Trim your lawn with a push-mower.
• For extra credit...only use stored water and no ice

Things to Remember...don't unplug your fridge/freezer/hot water/ etc.  Just Don't Use Them

The Ultimate Earth Day Activity is...AN EXCELLENT LEARNING ACTIVITY.

At the end of the day, try to make a resolution to eliminate something in your life that you could do without...an extra plane trip sometime during the year, for instance, that you don't really need to take (or using the automobile for a trip that could be put aside or combined with another).

Remember, this 'exercise' could be done on any day of your choosing. It is an excellent experience to go through in order to 'prepare' people for getting through the first 24 hours of a disaster (natural or otherwise).
